The Renaissance Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada is a four diamond, non-gaming, smoke-free hotel. The fourteen-story building is 400,000 square feet and is located just minutes from the Las Vegas strip and walking distance from the Convention Center. In January 2017, this property achieved the prestigious recognition of Three Green Globes.

Strategy

GRN Vision consulted with Renaissance as their sustainability partner to assist them in incorporating multiple aspects of a high-performance building during the Green Globes certification process. It is obvious that the comfort, safety and health of their guests and employees is a top priority for Renaissance with a score of 86% in the Indoor Environment category. Building users benefit from having acoustical privacy as well as control of the ventilation in their units. This not only keeps them happy and healthy but helps to keep energy usage down. In addition to these energy savings, high efficiency light-fixtures and task lighting are used throughout the property as well as energy efficient windows.

When it comes to finding unique ways to divert waste, the hotel owners did not fall short. They opted to convey the restaurant waste to a local pig farm for use as feed in lieu of composting or sending to a landfill. In addition, the fats, oils and greases from the grease trap are picked up and sent to a bio-fuel refiner. GRN Vision took this as an opportunity to find points in the materials and resources category.
